PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
The action of the lotion is due to the properties of the complex of active substances and excipients. The product has an antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, epithelizing effect, has a sedative effect, and eliminates itching.
BENZALKONIUM CHLORIDE – has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity and bactericidal properties. Benzalkonium chloride is an antiseptic from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds.
It acts as a cationic detergent. Due to its emulsifying properties, it depolarizes the cytoplasmic membranes of microorganisms and therefore increases their permeability. Due to this fact, it acts as bactericidal agent on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as on Candida albicans.
CALENDULA TINCTURE (TINCTURA CALENDULAE) – biologically active substances contained in calendula flowers (flavonoid and carotenoid glycosides, saponins, tannins, essential oil, organic acids) have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.
TEA TREE OIL – a natural vegetable essential oil containing more than 100 different components, the most important of which are 1,8-cineole; terpinenes, terpinen-4-ol. The most important active component of the oil is considered to be the natural terpinen-4-ol, which determines the antiseptic effect of the oil.
Terpinen-4-ol isolated from tea tree oil practically does not irritate the skin. Tea tree oil inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus beta haemolyticus, Рs. аеrugіnоsа, С. albicans, Malassezia furfur, Тr. меntаgrорhуtеs and Tr. rubrum, А. niger, Р. vulgaris and Legionella pneumophilla. In addition to antimicrobial activity, tea tree oil has an anti-inflammatory effect, promotes skin permeability to biologically active agents. Tea tree oil can stimulate damaged skin regeneration, promotes the epithelization of wounds. When applied to the skin, it is practically not absorbed into the systemic circulation and does not have a general resorptive effect on the body.
ALLANTOIN promotes wound healing, has an epithelizing effect and increases the ability of the tissue to bind water. In addition, its keratolytic properties and ability to improve permeability increase the effectiveness of other components of the drug.
Allantoin also has a soothing effect, attenuating itching. Excipients provide quick and effective cleansing, have a softening effect, and well affect the condition of the ears’ skin.
INDICATION
Lotion is used as a hygiene product to clean the ears of dogs and cats, as well as house rabbits. The lotion supports the health of the ears, removes old dirt and unpleasant odors, reduces the number of dead cells, and dries out the ear canal. Significantly improves the microflora of the ears. It has a calming effect, eliminates itching. It can be used as an additional agent before applying medications for diseases of the ears, enhancing and accelerating their action, providing the rapid recovery of the animal.
DOSAGE
For the hygienic treatment of the ears, a cotton swab is moistened with lotion and wiped the inside of the ear. With significant contamination, the lotion is introduced into the external auditory canal in an amount sufficient to moisturize the inner surface of the auricle and auditory canal (1-5 ml, depending on the size of the animal), after which the ear is massaged within 15-30 seconds.
The intensity and duration of massage depend on the degree of contamination and soreness of the ears. For greater effectiveness, you can leave the product in the ear for 3-5 minutes. Then a mixture of lotion and ear secretion is removed from the ear canal with a cotton swab or napkin. When other agents are administered, they should be used 15-20 minutes after processing the ears with lotion. With hygienic cleaning of the ears with otitis, the procedure is carried out 1-2 times daily for 14 days.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the product.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
The lotion is usually well-tolerated, but in some animals, with individual sensitivity, the allergic reactions (redness of the skin, rash, itching) may develop.
